Stereoscopic 3D imaging: Twice as hard as 2D?

Stereoscopic 3D has become the latest thing in motion pictures and television. But of course, 3D is not so new after all, with many examples of stereo imaging going back more than 150 years. In this talk, our speaker will start with a brief review of the fascinating history of 3D imaging. There have been many lessons learned over the years. Perhaps the most important (and yet most overlooked) lesson is that effective 3D imaging is not just about stereopsis -- the human visual system relies on many depth cues for calculating the distance of objects from the viewer. In 3D motion imaging, eyestrain, headaches and discomfort are often cause by conflicts between these depth cues. The presentation will include an explanation of some of the new technologies now being used for 3DTV productions, including the recent FIFA World Cup in South Africa. Due to security reasons, please sign up for this meeting here before Monday August 30th at noon!
