The Weather Channel Networks
Join us as we travel to The Weather Channel for a look at their new HD studio facility, technical center, and supporting infrastructure costing close to $40 million dollars. Featured will be “Cumulus” – a new media management system consisting Fibre Channel-linked editors, Apple Xsans, and Apple Xserver technology. This infrastructure enables desktop browsing, air playout from the edit suites, and in the future, an integrated archive system. Our speaker, Mr. Ross Kalber is responsible for broadcast systems design and integration services, broadcast system maintenance, satellite/fiber and radio frequency transmission, reception systems, and cable/telecom/DBS technical support. In addition his responsibilities also include all enterprise IT operations which consists of database support, system backup, telecom and networking, and server and platform support for Windows, Mac, and Linux. Mr. Kalber is also an active member of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers, Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers and CablePAC, and serves on the Technology Advisory Council for Motorola.

Take 285 Westbound to I-75N. Exit at Windy Hill and, from the right lane of the ramp, make a hard 180 degree right turn onto Interstate North Parkway as you approach Windy Hill. Weather Channel is about 2 miles on the right, on the outside corner of the hard left curve.
