Migrating broadcast operations to high definition poses some interesting challenges such as multiple aspect ratios and 5.1 audio. This presentation will include methods for handling Aspect Ratio Conversion (ARC) using the Active Format Descriptor (AFD), techniques for managing the broadcast requirements in multi channel audio, and a discussion of the material life cycle in a file based and hybrid SD/HD environment.
Karl Paulsen is Chief Technology Officer for AZCAR Technologies, and is responsible for establishing the company's technical vision and execution of strategies for technology platforms, partnerships, and external relationships. He is a regular industry contributor to the field of system design and engineering for media and broadcast facilities, IPTV, mobile/handheld, and emerging media. Mr. Paulsen has written over 120 articles in the field of video and media server technologies, plus the book "Video and Media Servers - Technology & Applications". He is a Life Member and Certified Professional Broadcast Engineer in the SBE, a SMPTE Fellow, IEEE Member, and a participant in SMPTE Engineering Standards Committees.
