Next Meeting:
Monday, November 14, 2005
Corky's BBQ at 6:30 PM
Program Starts at 7:30 PM
Program By:
JVC Professional
Hosted By:
Savannah College of Art and Design (In Atlanta)
1600 Peachtree Road
Atlanta, GA
Topic:
MPEG2 -
New Codecs, New Products, New Workflow
Ken Freed
Sales Engineer, East Region
JVC Professional Company
Wayne, NJ
High
Definition video equipment has been priced well beyond the range of all but
the very few in our industry. Now the twin developments of the D-VHS/HDV
MPEG2 based formats are changing the way we deal with HD.
New
HDV camcorders have dramatically lowered the cost of entry into the HD
production "arena." Yet the images are so good they have been used for 35mm
filmout. Recent HDV product introductions make this a very hot market
segment.
The
continuing improvement in MPEG2 codecs enables video image quality better
than ever with data rates much lower than those required by the older DCT
codecs.
These
MPEG2 data streams with their lower more effective bandwidth enable workflow
changes that use fewer in-plant resources while increasing production speed.

Internet Mailing List
We have a full-featured Internet
mailing list for support of Section activities. List members receive
meeting notices and other appropriate announcements. The list is easily
administered via the web. You can subscribe, unsubscribe, and change your
list options —yourself— on the list
Info Page, or view past list messages kept the list
Archive.
And
now there's another list that may be of interest —
AtlTech — created for those in the Atlanta area interested in
broadcast, television and motion picture engineering. It is a "place"
online where SMPTE members interested in the SBE can learn of what they're
doing, and where SBE members can learn of SMPTE activities, etc.
You can subscribe, unsubscribe, and change your list options —yourself—
