"3D-TV: The Eyes Have It"
Presented by: Mr. Matthew Goldman, Vice-President of Technology, Solution Area TV at Ericsson
Perhaps the hottest topic at NAB 2010 was 3D-TV. Despite an apparent lack of standards, it is on the air now. What organizations are working on standards? What are the options for pickup and backhaul? How is the in-plant infra-structure setup? What are the options to distribute 3DTV to the home? Can it be 2D backward compatible? So many questions! Join us as Mr. Goldman takes a look at these issues and provides some background on 3D-TV concepts.
Mr. Goldman is a SMPTE Fellow, a senior member of IEEE, and an inductee of the Academy of Digital Television Pioneers. He holds an MSEE degree and six patents in the area of digital video transport. He was active on the MPEG committee that created the MPEG-2 standard and was a co-developer of the PSIP standard adopted by ATSC. He has many other accomplishments too numerous to list. To attend this meeting, please sign up before noon on Monday July 19th. See map below.

July Meeting
The July, 2010 SBE Atlanta meeting will be held on Thursday, July 15 at 7:00 PM at Turner Entertainment, 1050 Techwood Drive. Click on the SBE logo above to go to the local SBE website for more information and to register if you do not have a Turner employee or contractor badge.
SBE is pleased to have Dan Wilson of T-Mobile discuss a very important issue for those who use the 2 GHz BAS band (the one that was recently "digitized" by Sprint/Nextel). Why is T-Mobile now entering the picture? Very simply, they have access to new "blocks" of wireless frequencies. Of particular concern to BAS users is a 45 MHz block from 2110 MHz to 2155 MHz (just above the "New" BAS spectrum used by ENG operations).
Dewey Newton, chapter 5's resident sage on all matters BAS/ENG was the Sprint/Nextel engineer covering the northeast US for the massive relocation project. He tells this "war story" - WABC-TV in NYC is the occupant of BAS channel 7 in Gotham. When T-Mobile started testing the new AWS base equipment last year, it caused major problems for the use of "channel 7" in the 2 GHz BAS space. Per Dewey, "Dan Wilson of T-Mobile will present the findings of the BAS and wireless industries as it pertains to adjacent spectrum utilization at 2110 MHz He will also present the T-Mobile hardware solution and coordination steps as T-Mobile moves forward implementing the AWS A block spectrum in the Atlanta metro area. As many of you know there were problems when Ericsson started testing for T-Mobile in New York. This is your chance to question of T-Mobile and determine if their solution is appropriate for your ENG operation."
Dan Wilson is an EE graduate of the university of Wyoming. He has been in the wireless industry for 11 years, working the last 4 years on AWS spectrum preparation for T-Mobile.
"Source Monitoring in the Broadcast Plant using IPTV: An Implementation at CNN"
