Topic:
The Importance of Quality Optics in HDTV
Larry Thorpe
and
Gordon Tubbs
Canon USA
HDTV
is fast becoming a significant reality in US television. The high definition
viewing experience is determined in large part by the two analog extremities
of the total HDTV system — the HD lens and the HD display. Lens optics is an
old science and today's HD lens performance is a legacy of long refinement.
The increased image quality provided by HDTV places a significant demand on
optic quality.
Larry
Thorpe will discuss quality HD optics by examining what is now expected of
lens performance in regards providing a quality image while minimizing
optical distortions and aberrations. Gordon Tubbs will discuss the design
criteria applied to a variety of HD lenses for a range of applications.
