The June Meeting Falls on the FIRST MONDAY in the Month

Monday June 4, 2007        Turner Broadcasting 1015 Building (See Below)

Refreshments: 6:30 PM            Meeting: 7:30 PM

The June meeting of the Atlanta Section provides a unique opportunity to learn more about SMPTE as an international association of engineering professionals.  In conjunction with quarterly Engineering Committee meetings being hosted by Turner Broadcasting, we are pleased to have two presenters who will provide some insight into the functions and operations of SMPTE.

Kimberly Maki, the Executive Director of SMPTE will be joining us and will speak with us about the state of SMPTE and the activities and directions of the organization.  Kimberly assumed the role of Executive Director of SMPTE in October of 2006.  Expressing a strong belief in the importance of professional associations to the growth and vitality of an industry and profession, she has defined a mission to enhance the importance and value of the SMPTE organization to individual members, corporate sponsors and the industry we work in.

Also presenting will be Bob Edge, SMPTE Engineering Director for Television.  Bob will be talking about the work of the Engineering Committees in drafting standards and recommended practices.  We often take these standards for granted and we rely on many of them on a daily basis.  As the technology underlying our business has become more complex and more flexible, the need for and requirements for new standards has also accelerated.  Bob and perhaps other Engineering Committee chairs will provide some insight into the challenges and the importance of this work.
