Next Generation Video Coding:
A Comparison of MPEG-4 AVC and SMPTE VC-1 to MPEG-2 Video
From the birth of broadcast-quality digital television, MPEG-2 Video has been the ubiquitous compression standard used for terrestrial broadcasting, direct-to-home satellite, Cable television, and DVDs. Now a new set of video compression standards have emerged and are starting to be deployed in some market segments and in various parts of the distribution chain.
MPEG-4 AVC (also referred to as H.264) and SMPTE VC-1 (the standardization of Windows Media Video 9) deliver similar quality to MPEG-2 Video but at approximately half the bit rate. And both are available today.
Come to this session and learn all about these exciting new video compression technologies and how they compare to MPEG-2 Video. This session will walk you through the various aspects of video compression techniques and translate these to understandable examples. The information will be presented in a way that will be beneficial to both the engineer and manager alike.
Presented by Tony Howard
