Managed Routing in Ethernet Networks
Connecting the Real-Time Broadcast and IT Worlds

Logo

Jeff Levie, Chief Technical Officer, Utah Scientific

The last few years have seen a continual increase in the use of IT-based equipment in the broadcast industry. The industry transformation to what is essentially a hybrid broadcast/IT infrastructure has presented some challenges. Most notable has been the issue of how to realize real-time switching on a not-necessarily-real-time IT network. An IP network is often viewed as an inflexible, unmanageable environment that has to be lived with. Or does it? After a review of some of the challenges with current systems, we'll have a look at a method for managing a Gigabit Ethernet Router that gives the user real-time control over a number of parameters that can be adjusted to optimize the performance of the network. Note: Please sign up here for security clearance before Monday March 8 at noon to access the Turner Campus.

February Meeting

Many thanks to the Savannah College of Art and Design ("SCAD") for offering their facilities for the February meeting and for their presentation on their curriculum and how they prepare tomorrow's professionals for the industry. The system integration company that transformed the former WXIA studios into the contemporary Digital Media Center is Comprehensive Technical Group (CTG) who not only did an outstanding job integrating, but also provided dinner for everyone. Thank you CTG. And a big thanks to Mr. Jack Linder, Senior Project Manager for CNN, for creating a great presentation. It is available here for viewing or downloading.
