Modern production, post production, and broadcast facilities are embracing IT
technologies at an ever increasing pace. The savings delivered by networked file-based
workflows have forever changed the capture, storage, manipulation, and delivery of
images. Image compression has advanced in recent years. When combined with an IT
infrastructure,
even greater efficiencies and savings result. Mr. Mahrer will discuss the
development
and
demonstrate the new AVC-I HD CODEC that offers unparalleled
quality at bitrates normally associated with SD signals. AVC-I is one of the format
options supported by Panasonic's tapeless P2 product line.

Maintenance Engineer

Description: The position is for a video maintenance engineer. General duties would be maintaining the general video/ audio and support equipment for the post-production department at Crawford with an emphasis on Sony DigiBeta and general VTR repair. The position is for a day shift engineer though there may be earlier or later arrival times to perform the usual duties as needed.
Duties:
- Maintain the various video and audio devices in the post-production and duplication areas. These include the routers, monitors, amplifiers, etc.
- Work with the artists and equipment operators to provide support for their activities.
- Interface with and for clients as necessary.
- Install, connect, and configure equipment as needed.
- Take a proactive role in keeping the equipment ready for service.
- Other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications:
- Minimum two years of experience in a post-production facility or similar environment.
- Some college or technical training in an electronics or related type field.
- This is a service company and as such, the candidate must have good interpersonal skills.
- Have some experience operating and repairing the usual VTR's and editing platforms and associated equipment commonly used in the professional editing field.
Preferences :
- Ability to trouble shoot to component level is a plus.
- Be familiar with computers and the usual Office type programs used as well as specific software as relates to video / audio applications.
- Any additional knowledge of computer networking or computer operating systems is preferred. Internet programming may be considered.
Work Environment: The candidate would repair and support the post-production facility at Crawford. This position by nature is technical and somewhat challenging and the successful candidate will be expected to perform the technical tasks assigned to them. Some level of physical activity will be needed to perform these tasks.

Responsibilities include driving and communicating the Station/Groups segment product vision and value proposition, developing the product roadmap, and overseeing planning, design, features, functionality, development, vendor sourcing, pricing, introduction, service level specifications and life cycle management.
To effectively develop and manage a product portfolio, the product manager requires the following skills:
- Specific knowledge of the broadcast television industry gained from substantial career experience. This experience must include having worked for a vendor to the industry and/or from working directly for stations or station groups.
- A deep technical, workflow and business understanding of the needs of stations and station groups as they relate to current and potential future product offerings.
- Strong written and verbal engineering communications skills.
- The ability to lead cross-functional teams in the design, development and introduction of new products.
- Ability to work with third-party vendors in creating strong relationships with integration of Pathfire technology.

Performs hardware/equipment/peripherals support for desktop PCs, telecommunications equipment, newsroom and automation systems, data and LAN infrastructure, and TV broadcasting systems (including control rooms, studios, T.O.C., cameras and feeds/edit systems). Shift work on a rotating schedule may be necessary to meet the needs of our customers. Monitor and adjust broadcast systems to meet accepted broadcast standards using diagnostic tools such as SDI scopes, audio/data analyzers, and other equipment. Provide on-site user support for newsroom systems and desktop PCs, including installation, problem correction, removal/replacement, or other tasks as necessary to ensure continuation of customer work productivity and/or on-air transmission. Perform component-level repair of broadcast equipment (cameras, VTRs, audio mixers, lighting gear, monitors, two-way radios, etc.). Perform board-level repair of computing equipment (motherboards, interface cards, hard drives, etc.). Participate on broadcast technology design or redesign projects with complex, leading-edge technology in an increasingly digital environment. May participate on server/network installation projects as required. Document quality standards, system anomalies, operational procedures, reference materials, and project work.
