January Meeting "Musketeer Imaging Sensors: All for One or One for All?" =or= "Using a Single Large CMOS Sensor to Originate High Quality HD" Presented by: Mr. Laurence J. Thorpe, Senior Director Imaging Technologies
A new 35mm CMOS image sensor has been developed that has a 4K x 2K photosite sampling lattice. Rather than using this to originate a 4K digital video format, a novel parallel readout mechanism is utilized to structure a 4:4:4 RGB component set - each with a full 1920 x 1080 digital sampling structure. No de-mosaicking algorithms are used. This presentation will outline the mechanism of spatial sampling and subsequent readout in the image sensor, and how an unusually high performance Green video is created that is devoid of aliasing artifacts. The exceptional noise and dynamic range characteristics will be discussed and how they bear on the excellent sensitometric performance of the C300 camera that utilizes this image sensor.
